My Practice

My practice encompasses the whole ecosystem between the visual, urban, and people. Many people have experience in one of those areas, but I believe a deep understanding of all three is critical to project success.

Urban
It's not just cities, as much as I love them. It's suburbs, sprawl, retail parks and even places that would be often considered 'rural'. Wherever there are people, there's economic activity. I'd consider that urban. However, it is around major cities that human civilisation orbits, so optimising their efficiency is key to improving our lives.

People
I don't want to use the word 'social' - it implies structure. I want to consider everyone in society; not just political complexities but lone-rangers, community groups and powerful bosses. We have to ensure everybody is included; not because it's idealistic (though it is), but because if we don't we are only causing ourselves greater problems for future generations to solve.

Comms
How do we include those people, and how do we get them on board? I worked with major brands for years, helping them communicate their brand aims better, but in the world of infrastructure and development, I believe there's a huge gap between project and people. You don't have to go far on social media to see "waste of money" or "blame the council" comments. Fair enough, actually. We need to get a lot better at telling people why a project makes sense, who's funding it and how it's going to affect your life.

My Practice
I sit in the space between all three. Let's troubleshoot this. If we get this right, we can create great projects that drive up your neighbourhood, town or city.
